The palaestrae

Plan of the baths.
Drawing: D. Busson & V. Charlanne.
This unheated area was used for physical exercise. The two large rooms linked by a passageway are thought to be covered palaestrae.

The walls, decorated with arched, flat-backed niches, probably had windows that let in light and offered a view of the Seine.

On the sides, doors framed in large masonry gave access to the open-air exercise areas.
